Winter came / Tali tuli

After many relatively warm winters, the temperature has really dropped this time to somewhat scary lows. But low temperatures mean clear skies and the spectacle of frozen landscape in sunshine is a real treat to anyone with a photocamera (that still works in -20°C…). Jõgeva county has once again been among the coldest parts of Estonia, so it can come as no surprise, that the all time cold record of Estonia -43.5°C was registered in Jõgeva in 1940. Because of the extremely cold weather, we had to move our chickens from their coop to our neighbour’s barn, where more than 30 other chickens and roosters, four geese, two goats and five sheep keep each other warm and cosy. We call it ‘sheep heating’.

Pärast kahtlaselt näotuid sooje talvi on välistemperatuur langenud hirmuäratavalt madalale. Kuldne kesktee on meie talvele ilmselgelt võõras mõiste. Õnneks on külmadel kuid selgetel ilmadel omad eelised – fantastiliselt kirkad looduspildid, kus maastik on kaunistatud võimatult säravamate dekoratsioonidega.
